Mark Sinsteden's Room
1. The black-watch throw is “from my grandmother.” Sinsteden is reading The Lover,by Marguerite Duras.
2. The plaid pillows and bed linens are Ralph Lauren.
3. The curtains and paisley pillows are from Sinsteden’s boss, Charlotte Moss.
4. The rugs are from his family.
5. The armchair is “a hand-me-down from a client.”

Student Rooms are not easy to decorate.
And since coming back from a break at home I've realised mine is in need of a spruce.
The main problem is the furniture; ugly makings born from crazed miscreants from an era most furniture designers have probably erased from their minds, almost in the same way architect students are taught to erase all memory of a normal healthy work ethic, since you know, it's all for the better. Anyway generally furniture just tries to overcompensate with terrible terrible consequences in this case. If it wasn't for the furniture, student rooms would be a lot easier to decorate. That and rules concerning putting nails in walls. Oh and curtains. But all of these things can be overcome. Even really ugly furniture.
Also generally the small space is actually an advantage. Plus, unlike a childhood bedroom it isn't filled with mountains of crap; it's a wondrous blank canvas.
So here's some things which work, most are ambitious, but all could be done on a budget.
