"Herr Gevatter opera by H. Barheide, U. Kreppein, B. Raithel, A. Schreier, R. Thoene,, director: Anna Malunat, costumes: Angela C. Schuett, Saarlaendisches Staatstheater Saarbruecken, 2005

The opera is based on a fairy tale by Gebrueder Grimm which tells the story of a man who forms an alliance with the devil to save his sick child. The price for the magic medicine is his sanity. The stage set materialises the slow fading of reality as his sanity vanishes. The servant's quarters in a country house consist of a bunk bed, a table, a lamp, a basin, a tiled floor and an electric extract fan, all constructed from carefully hatched corrugated coardboard."
